Update-a-thon : contribuez à un outil clé de l'édition scientifique canadienne

As part of an event organized by INKE, Coalition Publica is convening a community update-a-thon, a free and engaging activity during which participants can help advance knowledge about Canadian scholarly publishing.

Interested in participating? Simply come to room B-4205 in the Jean-Brillant Pavilion at the Université de Montréal, on Friday, June 5 from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM.

Coalition Publica is a partnership between Érudit and the Public Knowledge Project aimed at advancing the dissemination of research and Canadian digital scholarly publishing. In collaboration with libraries, it supports the community of humanities and social sciences journals in their transition toward sustainable open access.

Updating the Directory of Canadian Scholarly Journals

Coalition Publica maintains a directory of Canadian scholarly journals comprising nearly 1,000 entries. Freely accessible on the Boréalis platform, it offers a comprehensive portrait of the scholarly journals that make up the scientific landscape in Canada.

This unique resource has proven valuable for student and academic communities, as well as for decision-makers in public institutions involved in overseeing knowledge produced in Canada. Upon opening it, you immediately appreciate the richness and diversity of knowledge produced and rooted in Canadian universities.

This directory also matters because it belongs to all of us, collectively. Keeping it up to date thus requires a collective effort.

What is an Update-a-thon?

It’s the idea we came up with to meet this need for collective mobilization!

This activity aims to bring together anyone who wants to get to know the directory and pitch in to keep it an effective tool for everyone who needs to consult or use it.

The update-a-thon will focus on refreshing the database and updating the documentation it contains. No complex tasks or programming will be required. All you need is a web browser and a curious mind.

The format is collaborative and inclusive — diverse profiles and interests are welcome! Everything takes place in one hour; it’s the strength of the group that will make this productive!

In summary: To participate in the update-a-thon, no prior knowledge of this resource is required — not even of journal metadata. Simply bring your laptop; we’ll take care of the coffee and cookies.

Redefining Open Science with INKE

The Implementing New Knowledge Environments (INKE) partnership is a North American research network whose goal is to promote open social scholarship: an academic practice enabling creation, sharing, and engagement with open research, by specialists and non-specialists alike, in an accessible and meaningful way.

This year, INKE is meeting in Montréal on June 4–5, under the theme “Re-Defining Open Social Scholarship in an Age of Generative Intelligence.” There is still time to register to attend both days of the event!

To participate in the update-a-thon, no need to pay the INKE event registration fee. Simply show up at room B-4205 in the Jean-Brillant Pavilion at the Université de Montréal, on Friday, June 5 from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM.
